Our Little Jaundice Baby

Jack has jaundice!

If you look at some of these pictures he looks pretty orange.

While in the hospital, his level was a little high. Social services let us borrow something called a 'biliblanket' once we were discharged. It's this flat blanket that lights up. The process of placing our baby on this blanket is called light therapy. It's useful because the UV rays pull the jaundice out of him. He then gets rid of the toxins through his waste.

We went back to doctor a few days later, and found his level was much higher. He had to get a few more blood tests (poor little guy), and was almost hospitalized for some more intense light therapy. Fortunately, his level has been going down as the days have gone by. He is looking much less orange, but he stills needs to be on it at all times, just to take extra precaution.

Poor lil' guy! First he had such a hard time getting here and then jaundice and tests. I'm glad it's been going down for him though. He is such a cute little guy! Especially with all of his fuzzy dark hair. :)

Wow. Thats scary. Reese had higher levels of jaundice too when she was born, but they gave us something different to use. It was like a little baby tanning bed, and it worked really well. It was just hard, because she had to be in there with little goggles on her eyes, and I just wanted ot hold her.

Hope you are doing better. Jack is adorable! And T sounds like such a great help to you.
