Out On the Town...

We started our little tour of San Fransisco by going to the ever-popular Fisherman's Wharf, a local waterfront community where fisherman catch fish and sell them to tourists. There was so much going on the street; it was very exciting. We started at Pier 39, where we got tickets to see an underwater aquarium. We got to view the local underwater wildlife in an underground tube. We saw all kinds of neat animals:

The Finding Nemo fish.

Jellyfish

Sharks!

We even got to pet a sting ray. It felt kind of like a wet mushroom...

I would say the aquarium was one of our favorite things we did that day.

Afterwards, we walked around all the piers. On one particular pier, we saw this dock where a whole bunch of sea lions were lazing about. Sometimes they jumped off and swam around. They moved a little too quickly to get a shot of them swimming, but it was cool to see!

This was the view behind us on this one pier.

We decided to not buy tickets to go out and see Alcatraz, but we got as close as we could!

T really wanted to walk on the Golden Gate Bridge. Again, we didn't due to lack of time/money/energy, so he had to settle with my best photography skills. While we walked around, we came across this area where all the fisherman were selling fresh fish. One of their biggest features was the 'Clam Chowder Bread Bowl'. It seemed like this was the most popular thing to get because every little shop was selling it. So, we decided to share one. Boy was it good! I love clam chowder, and putting it in a bread bowl was a genius idea. T loved it, too, but he wasn't too sure it was any better than his sister Annette's clam chowder, for which she is famous for. If Annette put her clam chowder in a bread bowl, I would have to agree as well!

I don't know if it is because I've been craving sweet things lately, or I just wanted it, but I had my heart set on going to Ghiradelli Square and getting an ice cream shake. According to the internet, it is "the thing to do while in San Francisco", so of course, we did it! It was this cute little shop, with a million different ice cream sundae combinations. We chose the 'Mint Bliss'. It had mint chocolate chip ice cream with dark chocolate hot fudge. I had never tasted dark chocolate fudge, so I was interested in trying it and T loves ANYTHING dark chocolate, so it was the best choice for us. It tasted delicious, but near the end, it got a little too rich for us. I'm not sure we even finished it, actually.

Later that night, we went to 'Little Italy', and ate some great Italian food! We shared our entree, so it wasn't as expensive as it could have been. We then traveled to Chinatown, but only for awhile because I was tired, it was getting dark, and the part of Chinatown we decided to visit had too many dark alleys, which made me a little uncomfortable.

We took the bus back to our hotel, and slept pretty soundly that night. Our time in San Francisco had come to a close, but we had a whole lot of traveling in front of us. We decided to take one more break in LA, and spend some more time with Ben and Amy Smith the next day, but first we had to get there...
