Neon

My name is T. Isom. I am not the normal author of this blog, but I thought it necessary that you understand who is telling this story. As you know it is "flashback friday" and i have been selected to go back in my time machine and relive an embarassing moment. This story comes from my childhood. My brother and I along with all the young boys from Pegram, wich is where i grew up, were bored on a summer afternoon. We decided to go out to our corral and mess around. We always had a few horses, but that summer we also had a mule whom we called "neon". He wasn't a very personable animal and this day proved no different. We picked some grass for all the horses to eat and the soon gathered around us. We were standing next to a pile of wood and i climbed on top so i was much taller than the horses. From atop the pile of wood i could easily slip on to the backs of any of the horses. All the other boys started daring me to ride "neon". And if you know me i cannot pass up a dare. I must have been only 9 or 10 at the time, but i slowly slipped on his back while he was busy chewing a mouth full of grass. I grabbed a handfull of his spikey mane, but about that time he realized he had some extra baggage. He quickly turned to the open corral and began bucking and crow hopping, which was quite a sight for the rest of the boys. They all began pointing and laughing as I came sailing off and landed on my side. I quickly hobbled away and didn't hear the end of it for a couple of days.
