This year, the actual Valentine's Day was a bit different for us. Valentine's fell on a Sunday, and was in fact, the day we chose for our son to be blessed. We are really lucky, and several of our out-of-town family members were so kind to come celebrate with us. As a result, we knew we wouldn't get any time to ourselves the entire weekend. So we decided to celebrate our own Valentine's on the previous Thursday. My mom so graciously offered to take Baby J overnight, so we could get a good night's sleep as well.

We started the night getting cleaned up. This may not sound that exciting, but to all you parents our there, I think you might understand. It feels so nice to be able to take a shower, and put on a clean shirt, free of baby spit-up. I know I haven't been doing this mothering thing for long, but I do have a much stronger appreciation for the little things (i.e. sleep, clean clothes, quiet, sleep, a free moment to myself, any time outside of the house, sleep).

We went out to eat, ate some ice cream at the local marketplace, and played pinball while waiting for our movie to start. It has become a tradition for us to pop in a few quarters at the movie theater arcade. We went and saw Avatar in 3D (I know we're a little behind on the times). We enjoyed it, even though I still have a few unanswered questions...
Also while waiting for our movie to start, we found these comfortable couches, and sat looking at the stars. We sure missed our baby, but we certainly enjoyed our time together. It takes a little more effort and planning to get some alone time with the husband now... but it's oh so worth it! Happy Valentine's Day!
